Simha, Thapa Magar win titles

LALITPUR, AUGUST 6

Arhant Keshar Simha and Krishnaa Thapa Magar won the titles of the fourth Dhana Laxmi Maharjan Memorial National Squash Tournament here at the National Squash Academy today.

The top-ranked Simha defeated second-ranked Amrit Thapa Magar in straight sets in the men's singles final match.

Simha recorded a 11-4, 11- 7, 11-6 victory to defend the men's open title. Along with the trophy, Simha received Rs 25,000, while Thapa Magar earned Rs 15,000.

Losing semi-finalists Amir Blon and Deepal Thapa got Rs 10,000 each.

Kishnaa Thapa Magar outplayed Bina Blon in straight sets of 11-7, 11-7, 11-7 in the women's singles final. Thapa Magar and Blon received Rs 18,000 and Rs 11,000 respectively.

Bhawana Sunar and Swosthani Shrestha - who lost in semi-finals - finished joint third.

Likewise, Bikash Magar won the junior boys' section trophy after he defeated Gopal Thapa 8-11, 11-2, 11-9, 11-8 in the final. The top two finishers Magar and Thapa earned Rs 10,000 and Rs 8,000 respectively. Pasang Lama and Salim Thapa came joint third.

In above-50 veterans' singles, Sudeep Bahadur Singh beat Prajwol Pradhan 11-5, 11-13, 11-7, 11-6 to win the trophy, while Dilip Adhikari and Dhir Bahadur Pun finished third. Likewise, Prayag Joshi defeated Raj Maharjan 11-7, 12-10, 14-12 in the men's plate category. Kamal Shakya and Junil Shakya finished joint third.

More than 100 players took part in the tournament organised by Nepal Squash and Rackets Association under the sponsorship of Dhana Laxmi Maharjan Foundation.

Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation and President of Nepal Olympic Committee Jeevan Ram Shrestha, Lalitpur Metropolitan City Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan, National Sports Council Member Secretary Tanka Lal Ghising and NSRA President Kishore Maharjan handed over the prizes to the winners.
