LALITPUR: Riddhi Shakya, Gopal Thapa, Vinayak Shrestha, Ajjar K Simha and Raj Shrestha recorded victories in the opening day matches of the fourth Dhana Laxmi Memorial Squash Tournament here at the National Squash Academy on Monday.
In the men's open category, Riddhi Shakya defeated Sadaya Pardhananga 12-10, 11-5, 11-7; Gopal Thapa came from behind to beat Prayag Joshi 5-11, 11-1, 11-4, 11-7; and Vinayak Shrestha outplayed Shiva Kayastha 11-8, 11-1, 11-9. Likewise, Ajjar K Simha overwhelmed Dibya Bajracharya 11-4, 11-2, 11-3; and Raj Shrestha bounced back from a set down to register a 14-16, 11-5, 11-5, 7-11, 11-4 victory over Raj Maharjan.
In above-50 master open section, Suresh Shakya defeated Ratna Maharjan 12-10, 11-7, 11-9, while Anil Barjacharya beat Junil N Shakya 11-5, 11- 7, 11-3. More than 100 players are taking part in the tournament organised by Nepal Squash Association under the sponsorship of Dhana Laxmi Maharjan Foundation. The six-day tournament features five events - Men's Open, women's open, above-50 master's open, junior boys open and plate.
