Rai moves up to top 20 on Day-III

Top Nepali professional golfer Sukra Bahadur Rai carded three-under 69 to jump 28 places up to tied 19th after the third round of the Kapil Dev-Grant Thornton Invitational - the INR one crore event under the Professional Golf Tour of India - at the DLF Golf and Country Club in Gurugram today.

Rai, who had just survived the cut at seven-over 151 yesterday after he shot a76 and 75 in the first rounds respectively, posted 54-hole total of four-over 220 to share the 19th position with six Indian pros - Sunhit Bishnoi (75), Kshitij Naveed Kaul (76), Mukesh Kumar (77), Arjun Bhati (72), Harendra Gupta (71) And Aadil Bedi (71).

Starting the day from the 10th tee, Rai carded one-under 35 on the front nine before playing two-under 34 on the latter half to post his best round of the tournament.Rai carded a birdie on the 10th hole - his first for the day - and saved pars on the remaining eight holes before taking the turn. On the back nine, Rai carded birdies on the second, fourth and sixth holes before dropping a shot on the par-4 seventh.

Varun Parikh carded five-under 67 to earn a share of lead with fellow Indian pro Kartik Sharma at six-under 210 after the overnight leader played even-par 72.Syed Saqib Ahmed (71) moved one spot up to third at 212, while Manu Gandas slipped to fourth at 213 after he played a round of 73.

Bangladesh's Jamal Hossain (70) shared the fifth position with Indian trio Shamim Khan (70), Himmat Singh Rai (73) and Sachin Baisoya (74). Among the prominent names in Indian Tour, Gaganjeet Bhullar and Yuvraj Singh Sandhu were tied 26th at five-over 221, while Jyoti Randhawa was tied 36th at seven-over 223.
