KATHMANDU, AUGUST 26

Top Nepali pro Sukra Bahadur Rai shared the 28th position in the Chennai Open Golf Championship at the TNGF Cosmo Golf Club in Chennai today.

Rai carded two-under 70 in the final day to post the 72-hole total of two-under 286 and was tied with three Indian pros - Pawan Kumar (73), Karan Taunk (77) and Chandrajeet Yadav (71). They earned INR 41,000 each. This is Rai's best finish in his maiden Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI).

Rai, who shared the 38th position after third round, improved 14 positions after the final day's performance.

He carded three-under 34 on the front nine. After saving pars on the first six holes, Rai carded three straight birdies before taking the turn.

Rai then played one-over 36 on the back nine. He dropped shots on the 11th, 12th and 16th holes against birdies on the 10th and 18th holes. Rai said he was happy to finish the tournament on a positive note.

"After two bad rounds, I am satisfied with the way I played today," said Rai, who will return to Tarun Sardesai Golf Academy to continue his training.

Manu Gandas of India won the INR 4 million event with the total score of 20-under 268 after he carded five-under 67 in the final round.

Overnight leader N Thangaraja of Sri Lanka slipped to second at 272 after he played even-par 72.

Indian pros Khalin H Joshi (68) and Abhijeet Singh Chadha (71) shared the third place at 273.
