KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 12
The ruling Nepali Congress (NC) has barred rebel candidates for a five year tenure.
Chief Secretary of the party's central office Krishna Prasad Poudel issued a press release today informing that the party has pressed a five-year ban on membership of rebel candidates of the party who are seeking to contest the upcoming elections against the official candidates of the five-party alliance.
In the parliamnetary and state elections slated for November 20, some NC leaders in constituencies including Chitwan-3 and Chitwan-1 have registered as independent candidates after failing to receive party ticket.
Earlier, the party had provided an ultimatum to dissenting members to withdraw their independent candidacy against offical representatives of the five-party alliance.
Nepali Congress (NC), CPN Maoist Centre, CPN Unified Socialist, Loktantraik Samajwadi Party (LSPN) and Rastriya Janamorcha Party have forged a political alliance and will collude to contest in the elections at both levels.
