Excelsior Cup begins

KATHMANDU: Radiant Public School, Modern Indian School and Nepalaya made winning starts in the boys' basketball tournament under the Excelsior Cup here on Thursday.
Radiant defeated People's Academy 42-28 riding on 12 points from Santosh Sharma. Ayush Rai netted 12 points as MIS edged past Pushpasadan 21-20, while Nischal Bhandari scored seven points as Nepalaya thrashed Apex Life School 15-2. In girls' section, Sanskriti beat The Chandbagh School 25-6, RIBS edged past Excelsior 7-6 and MIS outplayed New Era 17-6.
In boys' U-12 football, Sanskriti defeated Radiant 2-1, while Swastishree recorded 1-0 victory over Excelsior and returned to beat Kavya 3-0 in another match. In U-16 category, NIC Academy and Holy Vision registered victories. NIC hammered Kavya 6-0, while Holy Vision edged past Heartland 5-4.
Earlier, former national cricket team skipper Paras Khadka inaugurated the ninth edition of the Excelsior Cup. He also opened the newly-constructed cricket training facilities, Cricsal on the premises of the Excelsior School in Swoyambhu.
