United advance to semi-finals

Top flight outfit Church Boys United defeated hosts Rastriya Jagriti Club 2-0 and advanced to the semi-finals of the Itahari Gold Cup Football Tournament here today.

Ashish Chapagain and Mousam Limbu scored one goal each in either half for the A division side at the Itahari Sta-dium. Prashant Laksam of United was named the player of the match and he received Rs 10,000.

United dominated the game from the beginning but the hosts made them wait for 45 minutes for the opening goal.

United earned a penalty after Jagriti goalkeeper Niroj Chaudhary brought down Chapagain inside the box.

United skipper Milan Rai stepped up to take the spot kick but he struck against the post and Chapagain scored in the rebound.

Limbu doubled the lead in the 56th minute, just two minutes after entering the pitch in place of Bibek Poudel.

On Monday, two-time A Division League champions Machhindra Football Club will take on Kanchenjunga Football Club of India.
