Kathmandu win cricket title

Chitwan, April 20

Kathmandu defeated Chitwan by four wickets in the final of the Bharatpur Mayor Cup Bagmati Province U-16 Cricket Tournament here at the under-construction Gautam Buddha International Cricket Stadium grounds today.

Batting first, the hosts posted 121-8 in their allotted 25 overs before Kathmandu reached the target losing six wickets with nine balls to spare. Birendra Singh Saud top scored for Kathmandu with 33 runs, while Buddhi Man Bista contributed 32. Nischal Shrestha remained unbeaten on 20. Dipesh Chhetry, Sugam Sapkota, Bishal Khatri, Ankit Jha and Shiva Bhatta bagged one wicket each for Chitwan.

Earlier, Chitwan opener Ankit Jha top scored with 41 off 46 balls hitting six fours and two sixes, while skipper Suryanshu Koirala contributed 15 and other batters failed to reach double figure mark. Subin Hada and Pawan Kathayat took two wickets each for Kathmandu, while Sarthak Dhital and Pratik Pandit grabbed one each. Nischal Shrestha of Kathmandu was named the player of the match and he also won the player of the series trophy.

Chitwan duo Suryanshu Koirala and Bishal Khatri were declared the best batsman and bowler respectively. Bharatpur Metropolitan City Mayor Renu Dahal and Bagmati Province Cricket Association President Raju Basnyat handed over the prizes to the winners.
