KATHMANDU, MAY 26
A 27-year-old mountain climbing guide, Nima Sherpa, has successfully climbed three mountains above 8000 meters within a single week.
Nima Sherpa, a native of Makalu-4 in Sankhuwasabha, accomplished this with his ascent atop the world's fifth highest mountain, Mt. Makalu (8461m), following his ascent of the world's fourth highest peak, Mt. Lhotse (8516m), on May 18. Prior to that, Nima had reached the summit of the Mt. Everest on May 17.
According to Rishi Bhandari, Managing Director of Satori Adventure Pvt Ltd, Nima Sherpa scaled both Everest and Lhotse with the same climbing team, while he joined a different climbing team for his ascent of Makalu.
'This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I was fortunate to receive it and seized the moment. Not everyone gets such a chance. I was ready to climb again if asked,' Nima expressed, reflecting on his consecutive climbs.
This is the seventh Mt Everest successful for Nima, a climbing guide for the Satori Expedition.
Nima is regarded as one of the fastest mountaineering guides. According to Satori Expedition leader Mingma Temba Sherpa, while carrying a similar load to others on the ascent from Camp 2 to Camp 4, Nima could make two trips in the time it took others to do one. He is also capable of climbing to Camp 4 alone and without oxygen support.
Nima's journey into the world of mountain climbing began 16 years ago when he chose to pursue this profession instead of becoming a lama, as initially intended by his parents.
