KATHMANDU: Global Partnership has come up with an offer for Bachelor's and Master's level students in Nepal to work and study in the United States for four months to utilise their leisure time during thesummer vacation. Talking to The Himalayan Times today, Aashisa Thapa, director, Global Partnership, said 'Work and Travel USA' was an educational programme designed by the US for students who wanted to combine work experience while exploring the US. She said, 'We aim to devise affordable and exciting educational and cultural programmes for the students, as well as to provide opportunities to develop their careers.' She said the participants would have a unique chance to experience life and culture in the US and to share their own traditions and culture with people from the US as well as othercountries. Every participant of the programme will obtain J-1 visa and a job offer letter for legal work in the US for four months. 'Due to short period of summer vacation in Nepal, we send our students to the US on a commitment from their colleges that those who miss their classes will be helped to recover the loss,' she said. Global Partnership is Nepal's first organisation affiliated with international organisations such as FIYTO, GWEA, WYSE Federation, CCIVS-UNSCEO, IAVE. The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, Department of States and Department of Homeland Security, USA, regulates the programme, she said. 'The host organisations in the USA, such as WWCE, United Studies and GNECE provide DS-2019, a work-placement required to obtain J-1 visa,' she said, adding, 'Such host organisations also give certification and post management services and legal support to the students in case they travel to the USA in future.' She added that the total cost for package was $1,800, excluding the ticket fare. The participants will head to California, Florida, Texas, New York or Alabama in May, June or July 2010, depending on their job placement.
