584 Bajura families without electricity

BAJURA, JULY 24

As many as 584 families are compelled to spend their nights in darkness due to lack of electricity in Himali Rural Municipality, Bajura.

As per the 2021 census, more than 3,371 residents at Bichhayan of the rural municipality have been deprived of electricity for a long time. Dharma Bahadur Rokaya, a local, said that the locals' dream of using electricity has not been fulfilled.

He said that the locals were sad as there was the zero possibility of them availing the service.

Finland Government, European Union, and the local government under Rural Village Water Resources Management Project had taken initiative for the same some years back. Bichhaya Khola Hydroelectricity Multipurpose Cooperative Chairman Dharma Bahadur Rokaya said the locals' dream was ruined after RVWRMP did not work for the last two years.

Locals were playing active role to bring electricity in their village, but their dream was shattered after RVWRMP failed to work.

Himali Rural Municipality Chairman Govinda Bahadur Malla said RVWRMP had stopped working. He added that efforts were on to work with Kadoorie Aid Agricultural British Gurkhas Pokhara Nepal.

The rural municipality is three-day walking distance from the district headquarters. Bichhaya is cut off from transportation services.
