Indian Gen Kapoor arrives

KATHMANDU: Chief of Indian Army General Deepak Kapoor arrived in Nepal for a four-day goodwill visit on Tuesday.
Kapoor’s visit follows the visit of Chief of Army Staff of Nepal Army Chhatra Man Singh Gurung to India.
During his Nepal stay he will be felicitated with honorary general title of Nepal Army by President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav amid a special programme as per a tradition between the two countries that began in 1950s. Gurung was also bestowed with the same title of Indian Army by Indian President Pratibha Patil earlier.
Kapoor is also scheduled to meet the Prime Minister, the Defence Minister and his Nepalese counterparts, among others.
Enhancing defence cooperation in the field of training, UN peace keeping mission, sports and defence industry cooperation is expected to transpire in the meetings.
Kapoor is also scheduled to visit various Nepal Army training establishments during his Nepal stay.
Home Ministry has deployed a large number of the security personnel in the capital keeping in mind the sensitivity of the situation.
Meanwhile, the police personnel rounded up around half a dozen Maoists who were protesting the visit and greeting him with black flags at Tribhuvan International Airport.
