KATHMANDU, AUGUST 31

The District Administration Office, Kathmandu had announced it will provide a range of public services even during public holidays, but it hardly sees the arrival of service-seekers.

The DAO had decided in April early this year to provide services on 18 types of public holidays. As per the decision, distribution of citizenship, passport and national ID card will continue as usual.

In line with the decision, the DAO remained open today. However, the arrival of service-seekers was dismal. Assistant Chief District Officer Khadga Bahadur Shrestha said that the office was ready to distribute passports to 73 persons, but only 28 persons visited the office.

On a normal day, nearly 200 service-seekers visit the DAO for passport. Similarly, the number of people seeking national ID cards from the office ranges from 120 to 200 on a daily basis. Today, only five out of such service-seekers visited the office.

'All of the civil servants in the office are on duty, but service-seekers do not turn up,' he said, adding that it might be because the service-seekers were still not informed well about it.

The DAO remains open on different public holidays such as Chandi purnima, Buddha Jayanti, Gaijatra, Shreekrishna Janmastami, Indra Jatra, Ghatasthapana, Christmas Day, Tamu Lhosar, Bakar Eid, Ghode Jatra, Mahashivaratri, Women's Day and Bhoto Jatra.
