First phase of Taekwondo Cares Program held in Kaski

KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 2

The taekwondo cares program has successfully been completed at Annapurna Rural Municipality -8 Birethanti, Kaski.

Nepal Taekwondo Association conducted the program which was sponsored by Um Hong Gil Human Foundation, Asia Development Foundation and World Taekwondo Federation.

According to UHGHF, the first phase of the program was conducted in Birethanti Secondary School for one year.

'Under the project, 87 students of Birethanti Secondary School received special Taekwondo training,' it said.

Participating students were trained by Bodh Raj Giri, senior referee of the World Taekwondo Federation.

Chow Chung On, Asian Taekwondo Federation President, Professor Kyu Seok Lee and Nepal Taekwondo Association President Prakash Shamsher Rana donated taekwondo materials to the students.

'On the occasion of the completion of the first phase, a competition was also organized among the trainees in the school. Competition was held in 12kg weight groups, 6 for men and 6 for women. In which 40 people competed,' UHGHF shared.

Bhan Bahadur Chand, vice president of Nepal Taekwondo Association, said that the first phase of the training program was encouraging and the second phase of the program would be started shortly.

Haehoon Lim, country director of Um Hong Gil Human Foundation, said that through the program, young school children were able to learn taekwondo. He said that this is the first time the foundation has launched a sports project. Stating that this project has played an important role in getting young school children to participate in sports activities, he expressed confidence that the second phase will also start soon.

Gandaki Province Taekwondo Association President Jagan Gurung, Kaski District Taekwondo Association President Kumar Gurung and Nepal Taekwondo Association Office Chief Prahlad Thapa were also present in the program.
