Remembrance Sunday Ceremony honors Gurkha sacrifices at British Embassy in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 13

The British Embassy in Kathmandu hosted a solemn ceremony on November 12, 2023, to mark Remembrance Sunday. The event was dedicated to honoring and remembering the sacrifices of British Gurkha military personnel and veterans, as well as paying tribute to their colleagues, friends, and forbears.

Rob Fenn, British Ambassador to Nepal, led the dignitaries who paid their respects. Among the distinguished attendees were General Prabhu Ram Sharma, Chief of Army Staff, Nepali Army; Colonel Paul Smith, Defence Attache'/Commander British Gurkhas Nepal/Director Gurkha Welfare Trust (Nepal); and Major (Retired) Bhim Bahadur Gurung MVO MBE, Chair Regimental Association Nepal. They laid wreaths at the Gurkha monument in a poignant act of remembrance.

During the ceremony, a two-minute silence was observed to honor those who gave their lives in all lines of service and who remain in our memories, traditions and ethos, British Gurkhas Nepal said.

The ceremony drew a distinguished audience, with the heads of foreign diplomatic missions in Nepal in attendance. Also present were Inspector General (IG) Nepal Police Basanta Bahadur Kunwar, IG Nepal Armed Police Force Raju Aryal, and Ganesh Prasad Dhakal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Nepal Government). The event was further graced by foreign Defense Attachés based in Nepal, highlighting the global significance of this occasion.
