KATHMANDU, JANUARY 29

A probe committee, formed to conduct a study regarding the sale and purchase of shares of Ncell, the telecommunications service provider company in the private sector, has submitted its report to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal at Singha Durbar on Monday.

Committee Coordinator Tanka Mani Sharma Dangal submitted the report in the presence of Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Rekha Sharma.

The government formed the probe committee on December 7th to investigate compliance with existing laws regarding the decision to sell and purchase Ncell shares, revenue, and potential impacts on foreign investment. Former Auditor General Sharma was appointed as the coordinator of the committee.

Members of the committee included Secretary of the Government of Nepal, Phanindra Gautam, Joint-Secretary of the Finance Ministry, Ritesh Kumar Shakya, Joint-Secretary of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Baburam Bhandari, and President of ICAN, Sujan Kumar Kafle.

Although the probe committee was given a one-month timeline to submit the report, the deadline was extended after the committee failed to complete the task within the set timeframe.
