KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 14
The collection of feedback on the draft statute of the CPN (Maoist Center) concluded today at the ongoing statute convention of the ruling party in the federal capital.
Thirteen out of the 20 different groups tasked with reviewing the draft statute provided feedback during the session.
Kanchan Khanal, while sharing the group feedback, proposed that convention representatives should be elected from among party committee members, and representatives of martyrs, the disappeared, and the injured should be included as observers.
He stressed the importance of making the party more people-friendly and representative of all regions and communities.
Similarly, Saral Sahayatri suggested that the preamble should be simplified, the organizational principles shortened, and party membership procedures simplified. Noting a suggestion to change the party's election symbols, Sahayatri recommended granting more authority to the elections, accounts, and disciplinary departments, while also calling for a clear set date for the convention.
Yubaraj Chaulagain submitted a suggestion that the party committee should be elected through direct elections and proposed that standing committee members should not be mentioned in the statute. He also advocated for party members to decide candidates for public positions at all levels.
The convention, which commenced on Tuesday at the Nepal Academy in Kamaladi, Kathmandu, divided participants into 20 different groups.
Seven additional groups are scheduled to present their feedback and suggestions tomorrow, when the meeting resumes at 11 am.
