KATHMANDU, JULY 5
The country is currently experiencing cloudy skies, with weather patterns ranging from generally to mostly cloudy. According to the Meteorological Forecast Division (MFD) on Friday morning, almost all provinces are seeing light to moderate rainfall due to the influence of monsoon winds.
The MFD predicts that light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely in various parts of all provinces, today. Additionally, heavy rainfall is expected in isolated locations within the Koshi, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces. This weather pattern is expected to persist through the night, with a heightened probability of heavy rainfall in Gandaki and Madhesh provinces.
In the past 24 hours, Nepalgunj recorded the highest rainfall at 76mm, while Dhankuta experienced no rain. The Kathmandu Valley received 21.1mm of rain during the same period.
With the arrival of the monsoon, the summer heat has subsided, with temperatures in the western Tarai regions averaging around 35°C. Dipayal recorded the highest maximum temperature at 35.2°C, while Nepalgunj had a temperature of 34°C despite the significant rainfall.
The MFD has issued an advisory for the next 24 hours, warning of possible heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of Koshi, Madhesh, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces, and in isolated spots in other provinces. This heavy rainfall is likely to persist until Sunday. Consequently, the MFD has warned of potential debris flows, floods, landslides, and soil erosion in affected areas and urged residents to take precautions. The adverse weather may impact daily life, agriculture, tourism, health, and road and air transportation, it added.
