KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 27

Legendary climber Lakpa Sherpa appealed to international outdoor experts in Singapore to come to Nepal, as the country has become the ultimate adventure hub in the world.

Taking center stage at the Outdoor Fair organized by 'The Outside SG' in Singapore, Lakpa shared his insights on Nepal's mountaineering industry, inviting more foreigners to Nepal for adventure activities.

Presenting his thoughts on Sherpa and the Mountain Climbing Culture in Nepal to over 700 international outdoor enthusiasts, Lakpa said that adventure in Nepal is not only about summiting mountains but also about understanding the climbing process, Sherpa culture, and community, as well as the hardships faced by the climbing guides and support staff.

'Climbing or expeditions is a systematic process where so many elements are involved,' Lakpa, who has spent over 13 years in the mountaineering field, told the gathering. According to him, younger generations are much more enthusiastic about Nepal's mountaineering activities, in which they are now leading the tourism sector.

According to Lakpa, preparing an expedition on any mountain always follows a robust and comprehensive process. 'Summit is the ultimate goal for any climber, but the due procedures, including logistic management, base camp handling, rescue mechanisms, and client satisfaction, are equally crucial,' he shared.

Lakpa, 32, was involved in several rare rescue missions in the Mt Everest death zone, including one saving the lives of Slovakian climbers Vladimír Štrba and Zoltán Pál in 2016. 'From base camp management to rope fixing, Sherpas play a vital role in making expeditions successful in Nepal,' he said.

Lakpa, a Lulka Outdoor Ambassador Athlete, pointed out the need to follow the norms and values of mountaineering. 'Mountains are considered as gods in Nepal, and they need proper respect,' he emphasized.

Lakpa Sherpa is a professional mountaineer, profound rescuer, artist, and social activist. He has spent more than 13 years mapping the Himalayas. Lakpa, as an exceptional trekking and mountaineering guide, has led hundreds of climbers to the summit of the world's highest peaks, mostly Mt. Everest and Mt. K2.

'We are trying our best to provide the uninterrupted best services through our company, 8K Expeditions,' Lakpa said. 8K Expeditions, one of the country's largest outfitters, is run by three young Sherpa tourism entrepreneurs - Lakpa, Pemba, and Lakpa Thendu - who have more than a decade of experience in the tourism field. Lakpa says he is now focusing more on the logistics part, being the expedition leader, base camp manager, and managing director at the company. During his stay in Singapore, Lakpa also shared his insights with Outside TV and Calibre Magazine.

'I have shared details about mountaineering practices in Nepal, tours and trekking opportunities, as well as the country's adventure tourism potential with global audiences,' Lakpa said. During the event on Oct 26-27, speakers Kane Gan, Azim Afif, Fransiska Dimitri, Regie Pablo, and Jeremy Tong also shared their views on different adventure and tourism issues.
