KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 10

The Kathmandu District Court has remanded former Minister Lila Ballav Adhikari to judicial custody for two days following his arrest in Biratnagar on charges of document forgery aimed at facilitating the travel of three individuals to Japan.

Adhikari, who served as the Minister for Internal Affairs and Law of Koshi Province, was transported to Kathmandu this afternoon via flight. Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, he was taken directly to the District Police Range. He was subsequently presented before the Kathmandu District Court, which ordered the judicial custody for further investigation.

The former minister's resignation came after three individuals, who claimed to be his assistants, were deported from Japan due to the use of forged documents. Reports suggest that Adhikari himself faced deportation by Japanese immigration authorities.

The individuals allegedly involved in this case include Dawa Sherpa and Janak Rai from Khotang, and Kanchan Devkota from Rasuwa, all of whom traveled with Adhikari. Furthermore, police have arrested Mahesh Pandey from Dhading, Jugal Rijal from Nuwakot, and Bir Bahadur Sunar from Dolakha for their involvement in producing the fake government documents.

In light of these serious allegations, Adhikari resigned, and the Koshi Chapter of the CPN-UML suspended him from all party posts and membership due to the human trafficking charges.

The CPN-UML Secretariat has officially endorsed his suspension from all party responsibilities pending the resolution of the legal matters against him.
