PUBLISHER'S NOTE : Attempts to suppress the truth won't deter us from our duty

Dear Readers,
Since its inception in 2001, The Himalayan Times has remained steadfast in its commitment to independent, ethical and responsible journalism. Our guiding principle has always been to publish news that is accurate, fact-based and in the public interest - without fear or favour.
Recently, we have been made aware of a decision by the Press Council Nepal to take an 'unconstitutional action' against The Himalayan Times. This 'unconstitutional action' was taken unilaterally, without giving us an opportunity to be heard or to present our version of events. We view this move as an unjust and arbitrary decision that undermines press freedom and democratic values. We have formally responded to the Press Council Nepal, seeking an immediate review and revocation of this decision.
Despite these challenges, we stand vindicated.
Over the past months, The Himalayan Times has published a series of investigative reports concerning controversial climber Mr Nirmal Purja (commonly known as Nims Purja) and his company - Elite Exped, highlighting alleged irregularities, financial and sexual misconduct and abuse of power.
These reports were thoroughly researched, fact-checked and presented in the public interest. We are gratified to note that the Government of Nepal has since constituted formal probe committees to investigate these very allegations. That apart, several reputed international media outlets, including The New York Times, have covered investigative stories exposing the misdeeds of Purja. Such official and independent interventions reaffirm the credibility of our reporting and strengthens our resolve to continue practising fearless journalism.
At The Himalayan Times, we believe that no individual or institution is above accountability. Our investigative journalism has always been rooted in a sense of responsibility to inform the public about the matters that have far-reaching consequences. Attempts to suppress the truth or discredit our newspaper will not deter us from our duty.
We extend our sincere gratitude to our readers, advertisers and well-wishers, who have continued to stand by us. Your support empowers us to uphold the principles of free and fair journalism, even in the face of adversity.
