KATHMANDU: To counter the threat of epidemics in remote districts, the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD) is forming Community Rapid Response Teams (CRRT) ‘soon’. The teams will immediately respond to any type of outbreak in remote areas, Dr Vishow Raj Khanal, senior epidemiologist at the EDCD, said. He further said that merely mobilising the district rapid response team was not enough if an outbreak in remote areas is to be tackled. “We’re forming the team in coordination with District Health Office,” he said. EDCD is first setting up CRRT in 20 most-at-risk districts, in particular hilly districts and will form team for 15 districts later, soon, he said, adding that the there are 75 District Rapid Response Team nationwide. Talking to The Himalayan Times, he said the CRRT was for mobilising the team to combat or minimise the possibility of disease outbreak in the far-flung areas. The team would have the representatives from health posts and the primary health posts. Khanal said many remote areas in Nepal are accessible only after walks of several days “The team will be mobilised as per the need of the area and would give the first hand service to victims,” informed the senior epidemiologist.
