Heavy rainfall likely in western provinces

KATHMANDU, JUNE 29

The country remains under the influence of monsoon winds, with widespread rain and thunderstorms expected across various regions, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM).

The weather will be generally to mostly cloudy throughout the country. Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely at many places in Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudur Pashchim provinces, and at some places in the remaining provinces. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecast at a few locations in the aforementioned western provinces and at one or two places in the hilly areas of the rest of the country. Light to moderate snowfall is possible in a few high mountain areas.

Cloudy conditions will persist into the night, with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms likely in the same western provinces and at scattered places elsewhere. Heavy rainfall is expected at a few places in Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudur Pashchim provinces, with isolated heavy rain in hilly regions of other provinces. High mountain areas may also see light to moderate snowfall.

Kathmandu Valley

The Kathmandu Valley is expected to remain generally cloudy throughout the day and night, with a 70% chance of rainfall in the afternoon and 60% chance at night, DHM reports. Thunderstorms are also possible.

The public is advised to stay alert for possible weather-related hazards, particularly in areas prone to landslides and flooding.
