90th birthday of Dalai Lama celebrated in Kathmandu

The 90th birthday of Dalai Lama was marked with a grand celebration today. The event brought together devotees, dignitaries, and the general public in a vibrant program filled with spiritual rituals and cultural performances.
The celebration began at 7:45 am with the arrival of guests and the public. At 8:15 am, a ceremonial procession was led by monks playing religious instruments, carrying a portrait of Dalai Lama to the ceremonial throne. This was followed by auspicious offerings at 8:30 am, including prostrations and three symbolic offerings for the long life of the Dalai Lama, accompanied by monks' prayer recitations.
At 9:00 am, the national anthems were sung, uniting the audience in a spirit of respect and harmony. Shortly after, at 9:15 am, traditional ceremonial tea and dresil (butter tea and sweetened rice) were served to guests.
After the official program started, cultural songs and dances were showcased by students from four Tibetan schools along with performances by the Nepal Tibetan Opera Association.
The Chief Guest delivered remarks at 10:40 am, followed by a vote of thanks from Additional Secretary Karma Gyaltsen. The event concluded with a symbolic tsampa (barley flour) offering into the sky.
The celebration reflected a deep sense of reverence, cultural unity, and heartfelt gratitude toward the life and teachings of Dalai Lama.
