KATHMANDU, AUGUST 24

Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has stated that a completely conflict-free society is merely an imagination.

Inaugurating a seminar titled 'Contemporary Challenges to the Peace Environment in Nepal' held today, Minister Lekhak remarked, 'If someone claims there exists a conflict-free society, it is only an imagination, not a reality. Where there is conflict, there is also a solution. We must understand conflict in the right context. Compromise itself is a way of managing conflict.'

He further argued that the constitutional division of powers has, to some extent, given rise to conflicts in the country.

'Conflicts have emerged among local levels regarding the distribution of natural resources and border issues. Both existing and potential conflicts need to be properly managed,' the Home Minister noted.

Lekhak emphasized that the nature of conflict varies across the world, but conflict is universal, adding that it will persist as long as human society exists.

He stated, 'The armed conflict that took place in the country formally ended on November 21, 2006. A society of violence was transformed into one of peace.'

According to him, the constitution serves as a tool to measure the extent of instability, uncertainty, and conflict the country has endured. He observed that the constitution promulgated in 2015 is Nepal's seventh constitution.
