Dairy farmers in Gorkha will now receive cash subsidies to encourage milk production and strengthen animal husbandry in the district. The Veterinary Hospital and Livestock Service Expert Centre, Gorkha, has allocated Rs 1.5 million for the fiscal year 2025/26 to provide Rs 5 per litre of milk produced.

Senior Veterinarian Dr Ananta Koirala, Chief of the Centre, said the initiative aims to make the district self-reliant in milk production while motivating farmers to rear livestock in an organized way. The subsidy will be distributed through enlisted cooperatives, each required to collect or sell at least 200 litres of milk.

The scheme is expected to cover up to 300,000 litres of milk this year, benefiting small-scale farmers, particularly in Gorkha Municipality, Palungtar Municipality, and Siranchowk Rural Municipality, where milk production is relatively higher.
