KATHMANDU, JULY 24

Wild animal attacks in Chitwan National Park claimed 11 lives in the fiscal year 2024/25, according to park officials.

Of the total fatalities, eight were caused by rhinos, two by elephants, and one by a tiger, said Abinash Thapa Magar, the park's information officer. Most victims were inside the park collecting green fodder, firewood, or fiddlehead ferns (niguro).

In addition, 41 people were injured in similar incidents during the year-32 seriously and nine with minor injuries.

Over the past five years, wild animal attacks in the park have killed 73 people and injured 169.
