A total of five people died in wild elephant attacks in Morang district during the fiscal year 2081/82, according to the Division Forest Office.
In the recent cases, Amina Rajbanshi, 45, of Bansbari, Belbari-8, was killed by a wild elephant last Sunday while watering her paddy field, police said. Amit Limbu, 41, of Bhaunne, Belbari-10, was seriously injured in a similar incident last Thursday and is undergoing treatment at Nobel Medical College, Biratnagar.
Of the five fatalities, three were reported in Sundarharaicha Municipality, one in Belbari, and one in Letang Municipality.
Since 2068 BS, 17 people and nine elephants have died in such incidents in Morang. Among the elephant deaths, four were natural, two due to poaching, one from electrocution, and one from shooting.
The Division Forest Office has requested residents to take necessary precautions.
