The senate meetings of six universities and academies, held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister and Chancellor KP Sharma Oli at his official residence in Baluwatar, have approved their respective budgets and annual programmes for the upcoming fiscal year 2025/26. The meetings were held in quick succession following instructions from PM Oli to ensure timely endorsement before the new fiscal year begins on July 17.
The 15th senate meeting of the Patan Academy of Health Sciences passed a budget of Rs 3.19 billion on Tuesday. The meeting also approved amendments to the academy's annual programmes. During the session, PM Oli urged officials to expedite arrear clearance and improve service delivery.
The Agriculture and Forestry University in Chitwan endorsed a Rs 1.68 billion budget during its 14th senate meeting on Tuesday. Registrar Prof Dr Pushkar Bahadur Pal presented the budget, while Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Sharada Thapaliya stressed improving quality in academics, research, examination systems, and business incubation efforts.
The Purbanchal University held its 41st senate meeting and approved a budget of Rs 1.70 billion on Tuesday. Registrar Prof Dr Kalyani Mishra presented the budget, and Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Biju Kumar Thapaliya outlined the university's policy and programmes, prioritizing the launch of an MBBS programme and the upgrade of its teaching hospital.
Far Western University, in its 13th senate meeting, approved a budget of Rs 1.54 billion on Tuesday. The budget and programme, presented by Registrar Prof Dr Binod Lekhak, were passed with amendments. PM Oli urged the university to maintain sound financial practices and conduct audits according to fiscal year 2081/82 regulations.
The Lumbini Buddhist University, based in Lumbini, held its 18th senate meeting and approved a budget of over Rs 490 million, today. Registrar Dr Tilakram Acharya presented the budget and reported that the university's arrears stood at just 0.5% by the end of FY 2024/25.
These back-to-back meetings mark a concerted effort by the government to streamline university governance and financial planning. According to officials, four university and health academy senate meetings were held on July 15 alone, with two more scheduled for July 17.
