KATHMANDU, AUGUST 26
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has extended his best wishes to all Nepali women on the occasion of Haritalika (Teej) festival.
In a message shared on social media today, the Prime Minister conveyed greetings to all, describing Haritalika (Teej) as an important festival for Nepali Hindu women. He characterized Teej as a celebration of reverence, courtesy, and kindness.
PM Oli expressed his hope for stronger family bonds, joy among couples, and greater social harmony, noting that the festival reflects the essence of Nepal's joint family tradition.
While acknowledging that Teej is widely regarded as a festival of songs and dance, he emphasized that its roots are deeply connected to devotion, restraint, and self-discipline.
'In ancient times, both husbands and wives observed the tradition of fasting while worshipping the Sapta Rishi. Over time, this practice evolved into a tradition of fasting primarily observed by women. In modern society, new perspectives have also emerged,' the Prime Minister stated in his post.
He further argued that even scientific studies suggest fasting can have positive effects on the human body.
