KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 9
Defying the curfew imposed across the Kathmandu Valley, protests flared up in several parts of the capital on Tuesday morning, with the epicenter at New Baneshwor.
Crowds began gathering as early as dawn, blocking traffic and chanting slogans near the Civil Hospital, where protesters - largely from the Gen Z movement - demanded the resignation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
'The Prime Minister must take responsibility for the blood of students,' shouted demonstrators.
Police have erected barricades in Baneshwor and prevented the crowd from marching toward the Parliament building.
Authorities had imposed an indefinite daytime and nighttime curfew in Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur districts from early Tuesday. But large numbers of demonstrators defied the order, intensifying the unrest sparked by the government's ban on social media and growing public anger over corruption.
