Restrictions enforced in Sanepa, Bhaisepati, and Chyasal areas until midnight amid unrest that has claimed 19 lives
LALITPUR, SEPTEMBER 9
The Lalitpur District Administration Office has imposed a curfew on key areas of Lalitpur Metropolitan City after anti-government protests led by Gen Z youth turned deadly on Monday, resulting in 19 fatalities.
According to the order issued by Chief District Officer Suman Ghimire, the curfew came into effect from 7:00 a.m. Monday and will remain in place until midnight (12:00 a.m.) under Section 6(a) of the Local Administration Act, 2028.
The directive prohibits any form of movement, gathering, procession, demonstration, assembly, or picketing within specified boundaries of wards 2, 4, 5, 18, and 21.
Boundaries of the curfew:
Bhaisepati Area (Wards 4, 18, 25):
East: Road from Bhaisepati to Bungmati
West: CC Housing and Chobhar Galchhi Road
North: Bishnudevi Temple, located below Gayatri Petrol Pump in Ekantakuna
South: Downhill area towards Itani
Sanepa Area (Ward 2):
East: Sanepa Chowk to Indrayani Temple paved road
West: Bagmati Corridor Road from Balkhu Bridge to Manmohan Park
North: Ring Road service lane (from Balkhu Bridge to Sanepa Chowk)
South: Paved road from Indrayani Temple to Bagmati Corridor
Chyasal Area (Ward 5):
East: Suspension bridge over the Manohara River Corridor
West: Chyasal Stadium
North: Manohara River
South: Road leading to Mal Pokhari
Authorities have said that only essential services-such as ambulances, health workers, fire trucks, hearses, media, diplomatic vehicles, tourist vehicles, and passengers with valid flight tickets-will be permitted to move during the curfew.
