475 kg marijuana seized in Dhanusha, two arrested

KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 17

Police have seized around 475 kilograms of marijuana and arrested two individuals during a raid in Dhanusha district.

According to the District Police Office, a team from the Dhalkebar Area Police intercepted a pickup truck (Province 3–01–024 Ch 8325) while it was parked along the road at Birendrabazar, Ganeshman Charnath Municipality-4.

The police had received a tip-off that the vehicle coming from Dharan was carrying contraband.

The driver, Biraj Gumba, 24, of Benighat Rorang-1, Dhading, and an 18-year-old youth from Parbatipur, Kohalpur in Banke were taken into custody for further investigation.

A follow-up investigation revealed that the duo had brought the marijuana from Dharan and hidden it at a brick kiln in Jogiyar, Bideha Municipality-3.

Police subsequently raided the kiln and recovered 19 sacks of marijuana weighing roughly 475 kg.

Police said further investigation is underway.
