KATHMANDU, AUGUST 10

Police on Sunday arrested two individuals for allegedly stealing human remains during a cremation at Pashupati Aryaghat.

The suspects, identified as Ganesh Dhakal and his aide, are accused of removing pieces of bone from the body of Ram Shahi of Banepa Municipality-9, Kavre, while it was being cremated on Friday.

According to Superintendent of Police Kuldip Chand at the District Police Range, Kathmandu, the arrests were made after the deceased's relatives lodged a complaint. "The family alleged that Dhakal and his accomplice extracted a piece of bone from the burning body and handed it over to a tantric while the cremation was still in progress," Chand said.

The suspects are currently being held at the Gaushala Police Office as investigations continue.
