Over 8,800 inmates still absconding: Dept of Prison Management

KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 19

Inmates from 27 jails across the country escaped during the Gen-Z protest on September 8 and 9.

Similarly, children from nine Juvenile Correction Centres were also found to have escaped. Director of the Department of Prison Management, Chomendra Neupane, said out of total 29,212 inmates, 13,591 inmates and 964 children, out of 1,422, had escaped.

He added that 5,495 inmates have returned to prisons and 244 children to Juvenile Correction Centres so far.

Search for the remaining 8,816 prisoners was underway, according to the Department.
