Indian mountaineer Bharath Thammineni has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Indian climber to summit nine of the world's 14 peaks above 8,000 meters, following his successful ascent of Mt. Cho Oyu (8,188m) on Tuesday morning.

Thammineni's latest climb marks a significant achievement in Indian mountaineering history. His previous ascents include Everest (2017), Manaslu (2018), Lhotse (2019), Kangchenjunga and Annapurna I (2022), Makalu (2023), Shishapangma (2024) and Dhaulagiri (2025).

Dawa Sherpa, Managing Director of Climbalaya Treks and Expeditions, who was also part of the expedition, congratulated Thammineni for his determination and discipline, saying his achievement 'sets a new benchmark for Indian mountaineering.'
