Two arrested for defrauding people promising jobs abroad

Suspects allegedly took millions of rupees claiming to send victims to the UK and Australia

KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 16

The Nepal Police have arrested two individuals for defrauding people by promising lucrative overseas jobs in the UK and Australia.

The arrested are Manohar Chaudhary (31), a resident of Lalitpur Metropolitan City-4, originally from Jeetpur Simara Sub-Metropolitan City-5, Bara, and Meghraj Sunar (22) from Kathmandu Metropolitan City-13, originally from Gaumukhi Rural Municipality-4, Pyuthan.

According to complaints filed by the victims, Manohar allegedly collected Rs 850,000 from one victim promising to send them to the UK, while Meghraj allegedly took Rs 2.8 million promising to send another victim to Australia.

Following the complaints, the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office at Teku arrested Manohar from Kathmandu Metropolitan City-10 on Thursday and Meghraj from Kathmandu Metropolitan City-29 on Friday.

Both suspects have been handed over to the Department of Foreign Employment in Tahachal, Kathmandu, for further investigation and legal action.
