PM Karki vows to hold election on scheduled date

KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 4 Prime Minister Sushila Karki has reaffirmed that the government is preparing to hold the parliamentary election on the announced date, March 5, 2026. Speaking at a programme organised by the Jyapu Culture Development Trust on the occasion of the 22nd Jyapu Day, the Prime Minister said the election aims to transfer national leadership to the younger generation. Referring to the September 8–9 Gen Z movement as 'a significant lesson,' she stressed the need to respond to the concerns raised by the youth. Karki, who leads the interim government, said it is the state's primary duty to conduct the election on schedule and called for support from all citizens. She also highlighted the important role of local governments in preserving cultural traditions upheld by more than 5,000 Guthis. Linking culture with tourism, she pledged government support to safeguard and promote Nepal's cultural heritage. (With inputs from RSS)
