KATHMANDU, JANUARY 1 Hulas Steel Industries Limited, Nepal's first green steel and roofing manufacturer, has inaugurated a solar power plant at its Simara factory, reinforcing its commitment to renewable energy and sustainable industrial practices. The solar installation, inaugurated on December 31, has been implemented with technical guidance and subsidy support from the Alternative Energy Promotion Centre (AEPC) under the Government of Nepal, highlighting growing public–private collaboration in clean energy adoption. The company said the project is expected to generate clean electricity while delivering measurable reductions in carbon emissions, supporting long-term energy efficiency and environmental balance. Hulas Steel has already converted its Continuous Galvanizing Line (CGL) and Color Coating Line (CCL) from diesel-based systems to electricity, significantly cutting fossil fuel use. The addition of solar power further strengthens the company's environmental, social and governance (ESG) strategy. AEPC-backed rooftop solar incentives have played a key role in encouraging manufacturers to shift toward renewable energy, with Hulas Steel emerging as a leading example of sustainable industrial transformation, the company stated. The company said the initiative aligns with its broader commitment to responsible manufacturing, climate action, and green growth, contributing to Nepal's transition toward a low-carbon economy.
