CAN bids farewell to national team for ICC T20 World Cup

KATHMANDU, JANUARY 17 The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has officially bid farewell to the national men's cricket team ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in India and Sri Lanka in February–March. At a special ceremony, CAN extended its best wishes to the squad as it prepares for its second consecutive T20 World Cup appearance and third overall participation on the global stage. The team will travel first to Sri Lanka and then to India for preparatory series prior to the tournament. Nepal is set to depart for Sri Lanka on Sunday, where it will play against Sri Lanka 'A' before heading to Mumbai for practice matches against the MCA President's XI. Speaking at the ceremony, CAN Secretary Paras Khadka conveyed his encouragement and optimism. 'The whole world will be watching. We have been progressing well. Best wishes to all the players and the management team for the World Cup,' Khadka said. 'We hope supporters in India will provide strong backing once the team arrives.' Captain Rohit Paudel expressed confidence in the team's build-up. 'Our preparation has been excellent, and the practice sessions have helped strengthen our momentum,' he said. 'The year 2025 was exceptional for us, and we hope to carry that form forward. We are determined to make all Nepalis proud.' Head coach Stuart Law also voiced faith in the squad's capabilities, noting its balance and depth. 'We will finalize our plans through the upcoming practice matches. Our aim is to deliver strong performances in the World Cup and bring joy to Nepali fans,' Law stated. CAN President Chatur Bahadur Chand echoed similar sentiments, stating that the team appears fully prepared. 'The preparation has been highly impressive, without any doubt. The conditions in India also suit us well. Perform with confidence, and best wishes,' Chand remarked. Nepal has been placed in a group alongside England, West Indies, Bangladesh, and Italy for the World Cup.
