KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 3 Gold price in the domestic market showed a modest rebound on Tuesday after recording sharp losses for three consecutive days, according to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers' Association. The price of fine gold increased by Rs 3,700 per tola on Tuesday, reaching Rs 290,300 per tola. Despite the uptick, gold remains significantly below its historic high of Rs 339,300 per tola, recorded last Thursday. Gold had surged by Rs 20,500 per tola in a single day on Thursday, before plunging by the same margin on Friday to Rs 318,800 per tola. The downward trend continued on Sunday, with prices falling by Rs 18,800 per tola to Rs 300,000, followed by a further sharp decline of Rs 13,400 per tola on Monday, when gold was traded at Rs 286,600 per tola. Meanwhile, silver price also edged up on Tuesday. Silver rose by Rs 135 per tola to be traded at Rs 5,335 per tola. Silver had earlier dropped sharply from its recent high of Rs 7,505 per tola on Thursday to Rs 7,065 on Friday, before plunging to Rs 5,500 on Sunday and further declining to Rs 5,200 per tola on Monday. Market analysts attribute the recent extreme volatility in precious metal prices to fluctuations in the international market, profit-booking after record highs, and changing domestic demand patterns.
