KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 11 Senior experts from Nepal and India have called for deeper security coordination, youth engagement and policy convergence to address both traditional and emerging security challenges during the Nepal-India Think Tank Forum on Regional Resilience. The forum, hosted by the Nepal Institute of International Cooperation and Engagement (NIICE), brought together prominent defence and policy experts from both countries. Vice Admiral Sanjay Jasjit Singh (Retd.), Director General of the United Service Institution of India, said Nepali courage and valour have long contributed to Indian military strength and national security. He noted that India's Agniveer scheme remains open to Nepali citizens. Former Indian National Security Advisor Ambassador Pankaj Saran stressed the importance of youth engagement in shaping the future of bilateral ties, while Alok Bansal of India Foundation highlighted cross-border terrorism as a shared security concern. Experts also pointed to transnational threats including human trafficking, narcotics smuggling and counterfeit currency. Dr. Gaurav Saini cited a recent seizure of counterfeit Nepali currency in Bihar as an example of shared vulnerabilities. Nepali analyst Maj. Gen. Binoj Basnyat (Retd.) described Nepal's current political moment as a 'strategic pause rather than a strategic solution,' urging institutional reform and inclusive dialogue. Speakers collectively emphasized policy coordination, continuity of cooperation and academic collaboration to strengthen bilateral resilience.
