All-women teams to manage polling centres in Jumla, Gorkha

KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 25 The Election Commission has assigned all-women teams to manage selected polling centres in Jumla and Gorkha for the House of Representatives election scheduled for February 21, aiming to promote women's leadership in the electoral process. In Jumla, the Chandan Nath Polling Centre at Chandan Nath Secondary School in Khalanga Bazaar will be operated entirely by female staff, including the polling officer, assistant polling officer, assistants and office helper. Jumla has 71,739 registered voters. A total of 654 personnel will be deployed across 110 polling centres and 85 polling stations in the district. For security, personnel from the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and 974 temporary election police will be mobilised. Authorities said 77,000 ballot papers under the first-past-the-post system and 80,000 under the proportional representation system have reached the district. Two temporary polling centres have also been established. In Gorkha, Polling Centre 'A' at the City Hall polling station in Gorkha Municipality–7, Nayabazar, has been designated as a women-led model booth. The centre, which has 700 registered voters, will be staffed entirely by women - from polling officials to support staff and security personnel. Gorkha district has 333 polling centres, including 331 permanent and two temporary, across 225 polling stations. A total of 1,992 election personnel have been deployed, with at least six staff assigned to each polling centre. Election officials in both districts said the initiative is intended to encourage women's participation and ensure peaceful, orderly and transparent voting. (With inputs from RSS)
