Nepal is set for another day of widespread monsoon rain and thunderstorms, with the weather expected to intensify overnight as very heavy rainfall is forecast in parts of Koshi and Bagmati provinces.
The Meteorological Forecasting Division said generally cloudy conditions would prevail across the country on Monday, with moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning likely across many Himalayan and hilly areas.
Moderate rainfall with thunderstorms is also expected at many places in the Terai of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces, and at some places in Madhesh and the Terai of Koshi Province.
Heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in the hills nationwide and in Terai areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces.
The situation could become more widespread tonight, with heavy rainfall forecast in the Himalayan, hilly and Terai regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces and the hills of Lumbini Province. Very heavy rainfall is also likely at one or two places in the Himalayan and hilly regions of Koshi and Bagmati provinces.
The department said the entire country is currently under the influence of monsoon winds, with the monsoon trough positioned slightly north of its normal location.
Among the cities listed in the forecast, Simara is expected to be the hottest at 35–37°C, followed by Bhairahawa and Janakpur at 34–36°C. Kathmandu is forecast to record 28–30°C with a 60 per cent chance of rain, while Pokhara is expected to reach 31–33°C with a similar probability of rain. Jomsom is forecast to remain the coolest, with a maximum of 22–24°C and a minimum of 15–17°C.
