The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has forecast widespread rainfall across Nepal on Wednesday, with heavy downpours likely at one or two places in the hilly districts of six provinces.
According to the department's 24-hour weather bulletin, monsoon conditions remain active nationwide, with the monsoon trough lying close to its normal position. The weather is expected to stay generally cloudy throughout the day.
The DHM said light to moderate rain or snowfall is likely at some places in the Himalayan region, while many hilly areas are expected to witness rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning. Similar conditions are forecast in parts of the Tarai, particularly in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces, with a few places in Madhesh Province also likely to receive rain.
Heavy rainfall is expected at one or two locations in the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces, raising risks of flash floods, landslides and road disruptions.
During the night, generally cloudy conditions will persist, with light to moderate rain or snowfall in the Himalayan region and thunderstorms in parts of the hills and Tarai. Heavy rainfall is again likely at one or two places in the hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.
Among major cities, Kathmandu and Pokhara are forecast to receive moderate rain with thunderstorms during both day and night, with a 60 percent probability of rainfall. Moderate thunderstorms are also expected in Dhangadi, Dharan, Dadeldhura, Dipayal, Ghorahi, Jumla, Okhaldhunga, Jiri and Taplejung, while Biratnagar, Janakpur, Simara and Bhairahawa are likely to witness light rain with thunderstorms.
