The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has forecast generally cloudy conditions across the country on Tuesday, with moderate to heavy rainfall likely in several hilly and Himalayan areas under the influence of active monsoon winds.
According to the department, light to moderate rain or snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely at a few places in the Himalayan region. Moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is expected at many places in the hilly region and at a few places in the Terai of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces, as well as at a few locations in Madhesh Province.
The DHM has warned of heavy rainfall at one or two places in the Himalayan region of Bagmati Province and in the hilly regions across the country, raising the risk of floods, landslides and disruptions to daily life in vulnerable areas.
Tonight, generally cloudy conditions are expected to persist nationwide. Light to moderate rain or snowfall with thunder and lightning is likely at a few places in the Himalayan regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, and at isolated locations in the Himalayan areas of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces.
Moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is also forecast at a few places in both the hilly and Terai regions. Heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in the hilly districts of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Sudurpashchim provinces.
The department said monsoon winds are currently affecting the entire country, while the monsoon trough remains near its normal position.
Among major cities, Pokhara is expected to receive the highest chance of rainfall, with an 80 per cent probability both during the day and night. Kathmandu is likely to witness moderate rain with thundershowers, with temperatures ranging between 28°C and 30°C during the day and 20°C to 22°C at night. Moderate rain with thundershowers has also been forecast for Biratnagar, Dharan, Janakpur, Nepalgunj, Dhangadhi and Bhairahawa.
