The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has forecast generally cloudy weather across Nepal on Thursday, with widespread rainfall and the possibility of heavy downpours in several provinces as monsoon conditions persist.

Light to moderate rain or snowfall with thunder and lightning is likely in the Himalayan region, while hilly and Tarai areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces are expected to receive moderate rainfall.

Heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in the Himalayan districts of Koshi and Bagmati, as well as in the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Lumbini, and Karnali. Parts of the Lumbini Tarai may also experience intense downpours.

For Thursday night, DHM forecasts cloudy conditions nationwide, with light to moderate rain or snowfall in Himalayan areas and thunderstorms in hilly and Tarai regions of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim.

The department said the country remains under the influence of monsoon winds. The monsoon trough is positioned slightly north of its average location in western Nepal, close to the Tarai, while remaining near normal in the east.

Among major cities, Pokhara has an 80 percent probability of rainfall and Kathmandu 70 percent. Okhaldhunga and Taplejung are also likely to receive widespread showers. Temperatures are forecast at 35–37°C in Janakpur and Dhangadhi, while Kathmandu is expected to record 28–30°C.
