Nepal is set for another wet day, with moderate rain and thunderstorms forecast across much of the country and heavy rainfall possible in several areas as the monsoon trough remains slightly north of its normal position.
The Meteorological Forecasting Division said moderate rain or snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely at many places in the mountainous and hilly regions today. Moderate rain with thunderstorms is also expected at some places in the Terai, particularly in Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces.
Heavy rainfall is possible at one or two places in the hilly areas nationwide and in the Terai of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces. Rain and thunderstorms are expected to continue into tonight, with heavy rainfall forecast in Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, and at one or two places in the hilly and Terai areas of Lumbini.
The department said monsoon winds continue to influence the country, with the trough positioned slightly north of its average location.
City outlook:
Kathmandu is expected to see moderate rain with thunderstorms, with temperatures ranging from 28–30°C during the day and 20–22°C at night. The probability of rain is 60 per cent for both periods.
Nepalgunj is expected to be the hottest among the listed cities, with temperatures reaching 34–36°C, while Simara is also forecast to reach 34–36°C.
Pokhara is forecast to experience moderate rain with thunderstorms, with a maximum temperature of 30–32°C and a 60 per cent chance of rain.
Dadeldhura has the highest daytime rain probability among the listed cities at 80 per cent, with temperatures of 22–24°C. Dipayal also has an 80 per cent chance of rain, with temperatures reaching 32–34°C.
Jiri, Okhaldhunga and Taplejung are also likely to receive moderate rain with thunderstorms.
Authorities have advised people in areas vulnerable to heavy rainfall to remain alert, particularly as rainfall is expected to continue in parts of the country overnight.
