KATHMANDU, JULY 2

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has forecast isolated heavy rainfall in parts of Bagmati, Gandaki and Sudurpashchim provinces on Thursday as the southwest monsoon continues to affect the entire country.

According to the department, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces, along with Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki, will remain generally cloudy throughout the day, while Madhesh Province is expected to experience partly cloudy conditions.

Moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely at several places in the hilly and Himalayan regions. Similar conditions are expected in parts of the Terai, particularly in Sudurpashchim and Lumbini, while isolated showers are forecast for Madhesh and the Terai districts of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki.

The department has warned of heavy rainfall at one or two places in the hill districts of Bagmati and Gandaki and in both the hill and Terai regions of Sudurpashchim, urging people in vulnerable areas to remain alert.

During the night, generally cloudy weather is expected across the country, with moderate rain and thunderstorms likely in parts of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Sudurpashchim and Karnali, while isolated rainfall is forecast in Koshi and Madhesh provinces. Heavy rainfall may continue at one or two locations in Bagmati and Gandaki.

Among major cities, Kathmandu is expected to receive moderate rain with thunderstorms, with temperatures ranging between 27–29°C during the day and 21–23°C at night. Pokhara is also forecast to witness moderate rainfall, while Dhangadhi, Nepalgunj, Biratnagar, Janakpur and Simara are likely to experience light rain accompanied by thunderstorms.

The DHM said the monsoon system currently covers the entire country and advised the public to remain updated on weather forecasts, particularly in areas vulnerable to floods, landslides and inundation.
