1,061 complaints resolved with five days to HoR polls: EC

Most cases related to oversized banners, social media misuse and code violations

KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 28 With five days remaining for the House of Representatives (HoR) election, the Election Commission Nepal has resolved 1,061 out of 1,076 complaints lodged for alleged violations of the election code of conduct. According to the Commission, the complaints were filed before District Code of Conduct Monitoring Committees and Monitoring Officers across the country. Of the total cases received, 99 per cent have already been settled. Province-wise, Lumbini recorded the highest number of complaints at 244, while Sudurpashchim reported the lowest at 96. Of the total complaints, 97 were submitted in writing, while 979 were registered through telephone calls, SMS and other channels. The Commission said most complaints were related to the use of banners and flags exceeding the prescribed size. Other reported violations included misuse of social media, noise pollution caused by DJ sound systems, and the involvement of teachers, staff and local representatives in election campaigning. Complaints were also lodged over the display of party flags in public places and vehicles, as well as the use of vehicles without official permission. The Commission said monitoring has been intensified as polling day approaches.
